The Angolan Government is preparing for the migration from analogue to digital terrestrial television (DTT) this year, with the creation of an inter-ministerial working group.
The working group is coordinated by Eduardo Domingo Sebastian, national director of telecommunications, according to Portuguese news agency Lusa.
Based on the European DVB-T2 standard, Angola’s DTT network should reach 117 municipalities by June 2017, and requires US$386 million in investment, predominantly for infrastructure. It will also broadcast via Angola's first satellite, Angosat, which is scheduled for launch in 2017.
Televisao Digital de Angola (TVDA) – which comprises Angola Telecom and Televisao Publica de Angola, and an as yet unknown third party – has been established to oversee the digitisation project.
