Australian pay-TV operator Foxtel is offering a discounted subscription to its Foxtel Play Premium film and drama package ahead of the return to screens of the HBO hit Game of Thrones.

Game of Thrones season six will return on Monday 25 April at 11am in Australia, coinciding with its US debut. Subscribers to the Foxtel streaming service will also have on-demand access to Game of Thrones seasons one to five via Foxtel Anytime.

New customers who sign up to Foxtel Play between 18 April and 29 April will be able add Premium Movies and Drama to their first A$25 a month genre pick for only $5 extra a month for the first three months – a $15 discount.

Nearly 900,000 of Foxtel’s average viewers watched the last series charting the epic struggle for power in the fictitious and violent Westeros. A 57% rise on viewers of season four, more than half watched the show played back the same day from the simulcast, the Telstra and News Corp joint venture said in a statement.

Other premium drama series available on the pay-TV platform include Veep, Orange is the New Black, Penny Dreadful, Hap and Leonard, Turn: Washington’s Spies, and new comedy, Casual.

Foxtel Play can be received on a range of Samsung, Sony and LG smart TVs, Samsung Blu-Ray and home theatre systems, PlayStation and Xbox gaming consoles, as well as PC and Apple computers. Customers can also access content on smartphones and tablets with the Foxtel Go app.
