Alcatel-Lucent has launched Arqueopterix, a research and development project aiming to improve the experience of interactive over-the-top (OTT) video users over fixed and mobile networks in Spain.
arqueopterixThe French-based company heads a consortium comprising seven other leading Spanish video companies – Telefónica, Optiva Media, Indra, Brainstorm, Innovati, Masmetv, Masmovil and TRC.
Although generally concentrating on the challenges of interactive video platforms, the project also focuses on virtual and online games, aiming to develop a more efficient network usage to guarantee a fluid user experience.
OTT content providers, such as Optiva Media, are also paying particular attention to this research, as they foresee the great impact new technologies have on improving network optimisation and end user experience.
For Optiva Media: “These solutions have a potential market in TV operators, as they will be able to improve quality of their video-on-demand (VOD) services based on OTT providers without needing great investment in points of presence (POP) across the networks.”
