Over half (52%) of Romania’s 4.3 million fixed broadband connections at the end of 2015 provided access speeds of at least 100 Mbps.

Furthermore, according to data published by the regulator ANCOM, a further 14% provided speeds of between 30-100 Mbps and 20% at least 10 Mbps but less than 30 Mbps.

The majority of fixed connections – 3.1 million, or 5.9% more than a year earlier, were in urban areas, with 1.17 million (+6.8%) located in rural ones. T

he FTTH total stood at 428,000 (+196%), while connections through radio, satellite and mobile networks rose to 144,000 (+151%).

At the same time, the xDSL total fell by more 5%.

Indeed, FTTx cable UTP/FTP accounted for 50% of fixed connections and xDSL 23% as of the end of 2015.
