Days after BT Sport announced that UK viewers could watch the Europa League and Champions League finals on YouTube, Spain’s La Liga has followed suit with a similar deal.

La LIga WOrld 17 May 2016The official YouTube channel of the Spanish football league — which came to a dramatic conclusion on 14 May when Barcelona edged out Real Madrid to the title by one point — is to broadcast the various World Challenge tours which take place at the end of the season, as well as games from the prestigious La Liga Promises tournament.

For the 2015/2016 season, the La Liga YouTube channel surpassed the one million subscriber mark. The league claims that such performance on the different channels, and the broadcasting formulas are a testament to the international expansion of La Liga, and Spanish football’s adoption of new distribution channels and innovative digital content. The video catalogue has grown continually and now comprises over 20,000 clips.

The online video channel will get a boost from the tournament which will see Basque teams Real Sociedad and Eibar head to the United States, where both teams will play two fixtures, whilst the Catalan outfit RCD Espanyol will play two games in Bolivia. The first games to be broadcast live will be San Jose Earthquakes vs Real Sociedad, Houston Dynamo vs Real Sociedad, Philadelphia Fury vs Eibar, New York Cosmos vs Eibar, Club Blooming vs Espanyol and Club Jorge Wilstermann vs Espanyol.

In addition to offering viewers live coverage of all six games, the YouTube channel will be publishing the best highlights packages from the matches involving the Spanish sides, as well as a host of player interviews.
