China’s Bliss Media Launches $150MN film and TV fund

Bliss Media has joined forces with CODI Capital Group to launch a US$150 million film and television investment fund, named Bliss-CODI.
Bliss Media Wei HanBliss Media’s founder and CEO Wei Han and Xiaodi Li from CODI Capital Group will co-manage the fund, which will focus on international film and television equity investment. Investment targets will be provided by Bliss Media, and then jointly evaluated and approved by the fund’s managers. Bliss Media will also handle the distribution in China of each of the projects.
The first round of funding will invest in several projects with international distribution, the companies said.
Bliss Media, which has bases in Shanghai and Los Angeles, recently acquired a stake in international sales company Insiders, along with Wild Bunch and Cine France. It has also launched the $100 million Yoozoo Bliss Film Fund to finance ten international productions and Chinese co-productions over five years. The projects it is currently developing include the films S.M.A.R.T. Chase: Fire and Earth and Michael Mann’s Enzo Ferrari.
The company financed and executive produced Pablo Larrain’s Jackie, starring Natalie Portman, and acquired the Chinese distribution rights to Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge, starring Andrew Garfield.
