Century nears as Cisco celebrates first birthday for converged broadband access platform

IT giant Cisco has marked a double for the first anniversary of cBR-8, nearing the 100-customer mark for the converged broadband access platform.
Cisco cBRB 18 May 2016The product is designed to address service providers’ needs to boost speeds and manage critical network processing performance enhancements to provide uninterrupted entertainment experiences. cBR-8 is packaged to integrate stand-alone functions required in a cable hub into one smaller and. claims Cisco, more powerful box capable of delivering voice, data and video traffic over a single port.
In the year since its launch, the cBR-8 is approaching 100 customers in the US, Europe, APJC and Latin America, with over 30 already in deployment. It is already driving helping to power services for more than seven million pay-TV subscribers.
“We are excited to be at the forefront of the DOCSIS 3.1 gigabit rollout, bringing an advance trial to Fargo,” said Jon Pederson, CTO of cBR-8 customer Midco. “With the Cisco cBR-8 powering our platform, we can continue to scale our network and lead the way in offering gigabit speeds to all of our customers by the end of 2017.”
