TiVo Research has uncovered what supporters of the Democratic and Republican presidential frontrunners watch on TV.
The company cross-referenced viewing data from TiVo panellists who indicated they would vote for one of the frontrunners — Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump — with the networks and programmes those people watch more often than the average TiVo household, to create a ranking.
There were no surprises in the top news networks for Clinton and Trump supporters: Clinton supporters watch more MSNBC than average, and Trump supporters tune to FOX News more often. Other findings were more surprising though: Trump supporters watch Nick Jr 2.4 times more than average. Perhaps less surprisingly, Clinton backers favour network series with strong female protagonists, with the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend topping the list.
Also, Trump supporters are big fans of Destination America’s ghost favourite, Most Haunted — it topped the list of most-watched cable programmes. No 1 for Hillary fans? BET’s The Real Housewives of Hollywood.
Clinton and Trump supporters have some TV in common, too. TiVo found high concentrations of both camps watching the recently cancelled NBC dramedy, The Mysteries of Laura.
