Argentina’s public telco Arsat has received the landing-right authorisation to offer satellite services across Canada.
arsat antenaThe company’s president, Rodrigo de Loredo, has announced that Arsat-2’s direct-to-home (DTH) video services will be commercialised for local Canadian operators, following initial plans to become a pan-American video provider.
The company recently announced that its international satellite plans will be postponed while it focuses on Argentina’s local fibre infrastructure.
Canada’s authorisation is the first achieved outside Argentina, even though the satellite was launched over six months ago. “Getting landing-rights permissions is essential to starting the sale of satellite capacity, both for exporting and importing content,” explained De Loredo.
While the Arsat-1 coverage is limited to Argentina’s territory, Arsat-2 covers the entire American continent. “But an orbital position is not only valuable for its map situation, the satellite capacity has to be properly managed,” added De Loredo. “Arsat-2 has one of the most valuable geostationary positions in the world, covering the three Americas, but it has no clients.”
