Through 2016, Mexico will overtake Brazil’s pay-TV subscriber figures, becoming Latin America’s driving market during next five years, reveals a Dataxis report.
pantalla tvAccording to the company’s projections, published on its site NexTV, Latin America’s pay-TV market will slow down through to 2021, when it’s set to reach 80 million total subscribers.
After booming in the 2010-2015 period, during which it grew by over 70%, the market will stabilise over the coming years. By 2021, Dataxis estimates a 42.4% penetration rate.
The market’s deceleration will mostly be caused by the Brazilian crisis, where pay-TV has been falling for several months now, and the high saturation of some leading markets such as Argentina.
As the Brazilian market declines, the region will see Mexico emerging as the new leader by the end of 2016. Totalling over 27% of Latin America’s pay-TV subscribers, the Mexican market will close the year with more than a 65% penetration.
In addition, Dataxis expects 94% of subscribers to have some kind of digital option by 2021, while direct-to-home (DTH) services will remain the dominant pay-TV distribution option.
