UPC is establishing another milestone in the company history: the company is focusing on the constantly growing need for fast Internet with its basic service. Together with the introduction of a new product portfolio at the end of September, the leading provider of communication and entertainment is launching the new basic connection. This offers an Internet speed of at least 40 Mbit/s with simultaneous full power for TV and attractive telephone rates. The new basic service is unrivalled in Switzerland at a price of CHF 49.00.

Promoting a digital society
Internet traffic on UPC’s network has increased by 40 per cent in the last year alone. Eric Tveter, CEO of UPC: “With the new basic connection we are responding to our customers’ need for fast Internet and laying the foundations for connectivity to the digital world. In addition, we will make further investment in our network and press ahead with the next
technology level, Gigasphere, which offers surfing speeds of several Gbit/s.” At the same time, the company will upgrade its HD offers and introduce UHD and DAB+ radio offers. Thanks to the powerful network, UPC is able to provide content straight from the socket for its customers without any additional devices such as set-top boxes.

New product portfolio – direct customer relationship
The new basic service will no longer be billed through the additional property expenses. UPC is thus increasing transparency and can guarantee the best possible service for customers thanks to the direct customer relationship. The price of CHF 49.00 for the new basic package from UPC already includes the monthly basic fee, which does not have to be paid via the additional property expenses anymore. UPC customers will be informed about this change in writing. The switch to the new basic package is voluntary for customers. Existing customers who do not wish to benefit from the new basic package and wish to keep the existing basic package with 2 Mbit/s Internet speed including TV and telephony will continue to pay the subscription costs through the additional property expenses as has been for decades. The price for this will be CHF 36.90 from 1 January 2017. The existing scope of the cable connection will remain unchanged for existing customers.
