The television dramatisation of Harlan Coben’s best selling thriller The Five will be aired on Japanese pay-TV platform Wowow, following a distribution deal by Studiocanal.

The ten-part drama, produced by RED Production Company for the UK’s Sky 1, will launch in Japan in February 2017 on general entertainment channel Wowow Prime.

The deal follows the show’s recent international acquisitions by Italy’s TIMvision and Radio-Canada for French-speaking Canada, alongside France’s Canal+, Israel’s Yes DBS, the Netherlands’ NPO, New Zealand’s SKY, Australia’s SBS 1*and Spain’s Telefonica.

“The Five, an absolutely captivating, multi-layered thriller from globally renowned author Harlan Coben, is proving extremely popular in the international market and I’m delighted to see this success extend to Asia with this new deal in Japan. Home to the latest in global drama, Wowow Prime is the perfect channel to showcase The Five to Japanese audiences and I’m confident it will be a great success,” said Katrina Neylon, EVP sales and marketing at Studiocanal.

The series stars Tom Cullen (Downton Abbey), O-T Fagbenle (The Interceptor), Lee Ingleby (The A Word) and Sarah Solemani (The Wrong Mans). The screenplay is by BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning writer Danny Brocklehurst, and director is Mark Tonderai.
