For the upcoming Super Bowl in Houston, FOX is exploring digital-only advertising packages.

Reuters reports that digital ads will be priced at $700,000 for a 30-second spot — as opposed to at least $5 million for a 30-second TV spot. Last year, for the Super Bowl carried by CBS, digital ads were only available to marketers who also purchased television spots.

“The unit price we are getting for the digital stream only is as high or higher than almost all prime time programmes,” said Fox Sports president Eric Shanks.

The Super Bowl is annually the most watched television event of the year across the US. Last year, 112 million people tuned in to the Super Bowl on TV, while 1.4 million watched via digital platforms.
