RLJ Entertainment’s proprietary digital channels, Acorn TV and UMC, is claiming 2016 year-end subscriber growth that exceeded expectations.

Acorn TV is a North American streaming service for TV from Britain and beyond; and UMC is an urban-focused subscription streaming service in North America created by Robert Johnson, chairman of RLJE and founder of BET.

Subscribers for both channels more than doubled year over year in 2016; Acorn TV more than doubled to over 430,000 subscribers from over 195,000 subscribers at the end of 2015. UMC subscribers quadrupled to over 20,000 subscribers from approximately 5,000 subscribers at the end of 2015.

“We believe the rapid growth in subscribers confirms our strategy to bring high quality niche content to passionate audiences,” said Miguel Penella, CEO at RLJ Entertainment.
