Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) is to produce a second season of Ridiculousness for MTV, filmed in Spain but also adapted for audiences in France, Italy, Middle East, Africa, the Netherlands and Belgium.
Through the move, Viacom expands its portfolio of glo-cal content, which was tried out for the first time with MTV Super Shore in 2015.
According to the company, the first season of Ridiculousness reached 8.12 million viewers around the globe. Additionally, the local premieres were among the top-rated MTV shows in each region.
“MTV has been increasingly able to find success with glo-cal productions in our markets,” said Raffaele Annecchino, president, VIMN Southern and Western Europe, Middle East and Africa. “We have great, globally recognised formats like the Shores franchise and Ridiculousness, and when we take that extra step to make local versions with hosts, guests and cast pulled from our regional markets, we’ve seen impressive ratings and audience engagement.”
As with Ridiculousness’ first season, the second series will be produced by Spanish company, La Competencia Producciones, and will premiere on MTV in its local European regions this spring.
