Premium entertainment network EPIX has released an app for the TiVo digital recording box.
The app will enable authenticated subscribers to access EPIX’s library of more than 2,000 Hollywood movies on TiVo devices. The app will first launch with Atlantic Broadband, the ninth-largest cable operator in the US, with 250,000 customers in Western Pennsylvania, Miami Beach, Maryland/Delaware, Aiken, SC, and Eastern Connecticut.
TiVo-enabled customers of the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) also will have access to the EPIX app soon.
EPIX is already deployed on Xbox, PlayStation, Android phones and tablets, Roku players, Chromecast, Apple iPhones and iPads, Android TV and more.
The EPIX app will provide Atlantic Broadband viewers with streaming access via TiVo set-top boxes to its original series Berlin Station and Graves, its original documentary programming including America Divided, and thousands of film titles on-demand. These latter include The Hunger Games, James Bond, and Star Trek, original documentaries, music and comedy events featuring Katy Perry, Craig Ferguson, Louis CK, Wanda Sykes and more.
Key features of the EPIX app on TiVo include an advanced UX with the ability to add programmes and films to a personal queue, curated collections, advanced search and video playback features, plus content available for free sampling, Rotten Tomatoes scores and trailers. EPIX developed the application using the React/ES6 framework coupled with OperaTV, which allows for fast iteration and continuous upgrades for its customers.
“EPIX and TiVo share a common history as part of the digital revolution and fundamental view that making it easy for consumers to access content and watch great entertainment should be a top priority,” said Mark Greenberg, president and CEO of EPIX. “EPIX was created to offer premium content across new platforms and we are pleased to work with TiVo and Atlantic Broadband to provide subscribers even greater value. Going forward, we are excited to partner with other members of the NCTC to provide access to the EPIX app on their TiVo set-top boxes.”
Jim Denney, vice president of product management and strategy, TiVo, added: “With the availability of the EPIX app on TiVo devices, TiVo makes it easier to watch content in today’s fragmented media landscape by bringing it all into one place for viewers to find, discover and consume their favourite entertainment. Now, our binge-watching, entertainment fanatics can access the movies and programmes they love, wherever they are.”
