The public broadcasting service in The Philippines is to expand its digital terrestrial television (DTT) network after contracting NEC Philippines to provide new transmission equipment.

The contract will see NEC install DTT transmitters and compression multiplexers across six locations, as well as train employees from the Government-run People’s Television Network Inc (PTNI). The new infrastructure will be located in Manila, Baguio, Naga, Guimaras, Cebu and Davao.

“As part of NEC’s focus on providing solutions for society, this equipment will help to ensure that broadcasting and access to information is reliably maintained, especially during times of emergency, such as when powerful storms strike the region,” said Elizabeth Pangan (pictured), president of NEC Philippines.

The Philippines announced it would adopt Japan’s Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting Technologies (ISDB-T) standard for DTT in November 2013.
