Breaking beyond the X Factor, Simon Cowell’s Syco production house, along with Saban Brands, has won a commission from Greek FTA network Skai for a local version of reality entertainment format La Banda.
La Banda is said to put fans into control for the first time ever as it ‘hunts for the ultimate pop band’. The programme claims to put contestants into the spotlight as they individually walk a red carpet stage runway lined with fans to audition before the judges. From the very beginning, fans can vote via a dedicated app to give the competitors their seal of approval and have access to judges’ audition room.
The International Emmy-nominated US Hispanic version of La Banda, launched on Univision in 2015 and was No 1 in its time slot among Hispanic 18-49s in the key markets of Chicago, Miami, New York and Houston.
“At Skai TV we always aim to select and include in our programme line-up the best and most popular shows in the world,” said programme Director Alkistis Maragoudaki. “For the new season, we have the most exciting suggestion for Greek viewers. We truly believe that La Banda is the next step in the realm of entertainment shows.”
The content deal was struck with FremantleMedia International as well as Syco Entertainment. The former’s SVP Middle East, Africa and South Eastern Europe, Anahita Kheder, added: “Having achieved fantastic results when we previously partnered with Skai on The X Factor, we couldn’t be more thrilled about working together on La Banda. The format, which has interactivity as its heart, has had a great reception worldwide and we’re looking forward to the search for Greece’s ultimate pop band.”
