In the first phase of the pay-TV platform’s Sub-Saharan Africa rollout, Ghana, Rwanda and Zambia have become the first countries to receive Kwesé TV.
Parent company Econet Media already operates free-to-air (FTA) channel Kwesé Free Sports, as well as premium channels Kwesé Sports 1 and 2 , and is now adding a raft of entertainment programming to a multi-platform, multiscreen broadcasting model.
As well as a monthly package for US$25, Kwesé TV is offering a pay-as-you-watch service, enabling viewers to purchase three- or seven-day passes to its full programming bouquet. From the end of January 2017, customers in Ghana, Rwanda and Zambia will be able to buy a Kwesé TV set-top box and antenna to receive the satellite signals.
“These payment options, which turn the traditional pay-TV model on its head, provides unparalleled access to premium programming at an affordable price,” the company said in a statement.
“We are a dynamic, young company built to respond to the way audiences want to access and consume content, whether you subscribe for the full Kwesé TV bouquet, watch amazing sports programming free-to-air or choose to watch TV on the move, we aim to be the first choice for viewers all over Africa by bringing them the best in programming, at an affordable price making it accessible to more people than ever before,” added Econet Media president and group CEO Joseph Hundah.
“The launch of Kwesé TV completes the story we started telling 18 months ago. We have spent the past few months building this diverse media company which will showcase the very best in international content and act as a platform to showcase the best that our continent has to offer,” added Hundah.
