Movistar is to stream the first Davis Cup round of the year across Chile, while also broadcasting it through satellite and IPTV.
The tennis matches, to be played over the weekend in the Dominican Republic, will feature the Caribbean team vs Chile’s team. All of them will be streamed through movistarchile.tv and broadcast on Movistar TV.
It’s not the first time Telefónica’s Chilean subsidiary has tried out online broadcasting, as it already streamed Copa Davis’s last round of 2016*along with the Modo Mundial and Odesur events. This year, Movistar Chile will gradually increase streaming as part of its multi-screen strategy.
“We have noticed a higher demand of online video consumption, which is supplementary to pay-TV,” said Rodolfo Mardónez, vice-manager of content at Movistar Chile.
“Customers want to access content on any device at any time, including the traditional platforms, which is why we are delivering the Copa Davis through IPTV and satellite TV, but also through online streaming.”
