The all-round fan favourite octogenarian William Shatner will lend his unique voice to a guest turn on the animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic on Discovery Kids.

The show celebrates the importance of friendship and the special bond between best friends. It follows the magical Princess Twilight Sparkle and her trusted assistant Spike, who live in Ponyville in the enchanted land of Equestria, along with her colourful pony friends - honest Applejack, generous Rarity, kind Fluttershy, loyal Rainbow Dash and fun-loving Pinkie Pie. Together, they teach one another valuable lessons about the most powerful magic of all - the magic of friendship.

My Little Pony has a growing base of adult cult fans, including male fans that self-identify as “bronies”, and has drawn the interest of big names before. Last season for instance included a special episode featuring guest star Patton Oswalt.

There is no word on whether Shatner’s role will be a one-off or a recurring position. The actor himself leaked the news on Twitter. A user with the handle Brandonbeastmode12 asked if it were true that he might “do voice work for #MLPSeason7?” “Already did,” Shatner replied.
