BBC Worldwide has expanded its sales team in Sao Paulo shortly after announcing a new strategy to focus purely on content production and distribution.

Carolin Alckmin has been appointed as development producer for the Brazilian office, a newly-created position from which the executive will lead the development of new formats for the local market. Alckmin, who has worked before for TV Globo, O2 and Tangerina, will directly report to Anna Gordo, EVP, BBC Worldwide Latin America/US Hispanic.

The former TV Record executive, Luiz Eduardo Silva Soares, has also joined the BBC Brazilian office as digital sales coordinator and part of the sales team led by Paula Teruko, sales manager, BBC Worldwide, Brazil.

“By making these changes in our Sao Paulo team we show our commitment to satisfying the growing demand for premium British content in the region,” said Anna Gordon.

The appointments come shortly after the UK broadcasting corporation announced that three of its pay-TV channels in Latin America, BBC Entertainment, CBeebies and BBC Earth, will go dark in April 2017. The company intends to refocus on over-the-top (OTT) and traditional licensing and distribution.
