Discovery Kids India has acquired the rights to CGI animated television series Nils Holgersson from Munich-based producer and distributor Studio 100 Media.

The animation is based on the book by Sweden’s Selma Lagerlöf, the first female writer to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. The broadcaster will air the 52-episode adventure series across South Asia as a result of the content deal.

“We are delighted about this collaboration with Discovery Kids, which brings our brand-new show Nils to viewers in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka,” said Martin Krieger, head of Global Distribution at Studio 100 Media. “Discovery Kids is also home to one of our most well- known CGI programmes Maya the Bee and we are happy to continue our partnership with Discovery for this new title. Nils Holgersson is a well-known international brand and we are confident that the reimagined CGI series will be as successful as the 2D animation and will capture kids’ attention anew.”

Although the series is still in production, the first 13 minute-long episodes are now available to buyers.
