TV technology provider Zenterio is introducing to the Indian pay-TV market its latest middleware operating system that is newly integrated with MStar Semiconductor set-top box (STB) chipsets.
The Zenterio OS is designed to be a hardware independent STB software platform for the management of Digital Video Broadcast (DVB), IP-based and over-the-top (OTT) channels alongside services such as personal video recording, catch-up, video-on-demand (VOD) and apps. The operating system can upgrade existing legacy STBs, thus allowing operators to add new features and extend the product life cycle, the company added.
Zenterio claims that adopting the MStar chipset allows it to offer a competitive but powerful complete connected client solution for a range of STBs targeting the Indian pay-TV market. The MStar chipset family enables the same Zenterio solution to see use from basic applications to 4K and HDR services. Hybrid solutions can also be deployed, starting with core services such as apps, catch-up TV and VOD implemented mainly on the STB side, and gradually moving to a more IP-centric approach.
“Operators in India are looking for solutions that combine traditional pay-TV with services delivered over the Internet,” said Ashley Reid, Zenterio’s VP sales. “Zenterio OS along with our JetUI multiscreen software client enables a consistent solution for TV delivery anywhere and on any device.”
“We are pleased to be working with Zenterio to bring the full feature set of Zenterio OS to MStar’s customer base. The combination of Zenterio OS on MStar chipsets enables pay-TV operators to significantly reduce their STB, operations, maintenance and administration costs,” said Trevor Neal at MStar Semiconductor.
