Indian broadcaster Zee has launched its Telugu movie channel Zee Cinemalu in the US on the Dish and Sling TV pay-TV platforms.

Major blockbusters such as Akhil, Brahmotsavam, Kumari21F, Supreme and A Aa will be available to Dish and Sling TV subscribers. Zee Cinemalu will also showcase first-of-its-kind titles like ‘7 days 7 premieres’ and simulcast mega events. Just For Laugh comedy, Bangaru Bujji – which connects cinema and the day-to-day life of an individual – and musical show featuring Devi Sri Prasad DSP Live in USA, will also air on the channel.

“The Telugu community in the USA is close to half a million strong and is growing at more than 10% every year. With the positioning of ‘Dil Pai Super Hit’, Zee Cinemalu offers a wide variety of movies from different genres with an aim to win the hearts of the Telugu audience,” explained Sameer Targe (pictured), business head – Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEE) Americas.

Through the content deal with Dish and Sling TV , ZEE now offers 37 channels in the US, a move it claims makes it the country’s largest multi-cultural broadcaster.

Expecting the content to resonate with its target audience, Targe added: “Movies are an integral part of the lives of the Telugu audience and the stars of Telugu cinema are worshipped as demigods”.
