As it continues its strong start to 2017, Kwesé TV has undertaken an enhancement of its electronic programme guide (EPG) for channels and partners alike.
Owned by Econet Media and part of the broader Econet Group, Kwesé TV’s multiplatform offering enables viewers to access content across linear, mobile and digital platforms via multiple devices as well as on both paid and free-to-air services across Africa. On 30 January 2017 Kwesé TV launched over channels in Ghana, Rwanda and Zambia with a wide array of entertainment, news and sports.
In just the last few weeks, Africa’s latest pay-TV network became the first international distribution partner for music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ network Revolt TV; launched entertainment channels Zee Bollymovies and Zee Bollynova; and introduced premium sports services. In late 2016, Econet was granted the exclusive free-to-air broadcasting rights to the English Premier League for the next three seasons.
Under a deal with EPG services provider EBS, Kwesé TV will deliver enriched metadata and images for every programme via the Pawa EPG and metadata management application. Using the solution in-house, the Kwesé team will be able to enhance data and make any late schedule changes. EBS believes that with its system, offering additional, enhanced metadata will make content easier to discover, meaning subscribers can easily navigate around the UI, enjoying a comprehensive viewing experience.
“Kwesé TV recognises the fragmenting way in which viewers consume content,” explained EBS managing director Keith Bedford. “The necessity to be able to locate content quickly and easily across varied devices and media is paramount and in order to do this it is vitally important that channels deliver accurate metadata, on time.”
Added Econet Media CEO Joseph Hundah: “Our objective is to give our audiences access to premium and accurate programming,” said “We are therefore pleased to partner with a service provider like EBS who has a similar focus.”
