As part of its recent expansion in North America, TV5Monde USA has partnered with Create Louisiana to offer The French Culture Filmmakers Grant.
Continuing the network’s track record of supporting Francophone filmmaking, the grant will go to a Louisiana-based filmmaker to create a ground-breaking new film which will showcase French culture and talent. The prize-winning film will include English and French components that exhibit aspects of French Louisiana art, music and society. The grant will be given to a short form scripted story or long-form documentary that will incorporate elements of the French culture and history of Louisiana.
Create Louisiana, which consists of a partnership between Deep South Studios, New Orleans Films Society and the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, was created to champion indigenous filmmaking talent and celebrate the diverse culture of Louisiana.
“We are truly excited to partner with Create Louisiana to help discover new content from Louisiana’s wonderfully inventive and highly committed community of visionary filmmakers,” said TV5Monde GM Yves Bigot.
“This collaboration with TV5Monde is a thrilling development for Create Louisiana and for our indigenous filmmakers in the state. We believe this new opportunity is a meaningful way to connect with Louisiana’s rich historical connection to Francophone culture,” said executive director Jolene Pinder from the New Orleans French Film Festival.
Applicants can begin submitting their entries immediately. Create Louisiana and its partners will judge the originality of each script and the representation of Louisiana Francophone culture in each submission. After the first round of judging, five finalists will be invited to pitch their projects and to be interviewed before a panel of entertainment professionals one week before the New Orleans French Film Festival takes place 21-27 April at the Prytania Theatre.
