As it did last summer with the UEFA EURO 2016, Mediaset España has secured the TV rights for the U-21 European football competition in June.

The media company will broadcast all the 21 games of the competition live through its linear free-to-air (FTA) channels and the streaming platform Mitele.es, in which Mediaset will also storage the games for on-demand (VOD) catch-up.

To be held in Poland from 16-30 June, the U-21 Eurocup will see the Spanish national team, La Rojita, attempting to take back the continental championship after having won in 2011 and 2013, but not qualifying for 2015.

Through this agreement with UEFA, Mediaset continues uninterrupted coverage of the Spanish national teams’ competitions from 2010. The company has broadcast all the games of the U-21 team as well as La Roja’s participation in 2010 and 2014 World Cups and the UEFA Euro 2012 and 2016.

Covering the major football competitions has brought concrete benefits for the media company. Last summer, despite its own pessimistic forecasts, the UEFA EURO 2016 turned out to be profitable and boosted Mediaset’s profits by 20% during the first half of the year.
