Over eight in ten connected women in Mexico access online content through their smartphones, but they still prefer linear TV when it comes to video.

According to a comprehensive survey by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), 82% of Mexican women who access the Internet do so through their smartphones. But although an increase in online media consumption was noted by the report, linear TV remains the main source of video for women in Mexico.

80% of women use the Internet to listen to music and over half go online to read newspapers and magazines. However, when it comes to video and TV, 57% of them use only linear television; 20% use both online and linear platforms; and only 13% watch video exclusively through the Internet.

The survey, supported by Televisa Digital and Kantar, found that Mexican women prefer videos about fashion, lifestyle and beauty, while they use more text-based formats to consume content related to the news, travelling and health.

Seven in ten women also generate their own online video content, most of them (83%) sharing and uploading videos through Facebook. In fact, they’re very active on the social media, as on average they use three platforms.

The figures are similar to those shown by an IAB survey published last summer which found that Mexican dads still prefer traditional TV.
