Astro Malaysia has selected Accedo to deliver its NJOI Now free video streaming service to iOS and Android-based mobile devices.

The upgraded service follows NJOI, which launched in 2011 and already serves 1.8 million households. This now has a potential to reach 12 million viewers in the near future, providing online and mobile viewers with video-on-demand (VOD) including box sets and series from Astro’s channels, as well as live sports and breaking news.

The upgrade to the service uses AppGrid, Accedo’s cloud-based video experience management platform to provide real-time control, configuration and cross-platform insights.

“Astro takes an innovative approach to video experiences and the market response to NJOI has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Matt Kossatz, vice president – APAC, Accedo.

“Asia is an exciting market right now for video offerings, with a significant shift from ‘me-too’ offerings to innovative and compelling offerings, such as those from Astro, which are leading the way on a global scale.”

The NJOI Now service has been rolled out in very little time and is designed to offer digital consumers complete flexibility with no fuss, said the video technology company.

“With the launch of NJOI Now, all Malaysians can NJOI online and offline access to content on all screens, at home and on individual mobiles. This free service includes access to over 2,200 titles of movie and drama box sets, even tutorials which may be downloaded and stored on the devices and watched at convenience, in addition to live sports and news, ecommerce via Go Shop, as well as the viewer’s favourite channels,” said Rohana Rozhan, Group CEO, Astro.
