Grupo Imagen has announced a major agreement with YouTube to boost online content distribution.

The Mexican media company, which entered the free-to-air (FTA) TV market last year with Imagen TV, is using YouTube technology to power a new set of digital properties, including mobile apps and a web-based platform.

The deal addresses “the growing demand for sports, series, entertainment and news content on the Internet,” said the group in a release.

Despite being less than a year old, Imagen TV’s iOS and Android apps and website already total over a million unique visitors and register more than 36 million plays per month.

The group has gradually rolled out the new YouTube-based platform over recent months.

“We’ll keep enriching users’ experience on our app and website with valued news, sports, entertainment and fiction content,” said Rafael Bracho, CEO, Imagen Digital.
