Telecinco has retaken the lead in Spain’s free-to-air (FTA) sector in June, despite its closest competitor having Champions League’s rights.
The Mediaset channel scored the best audience figures so far this year, reaching a 14.4% average share, while Atresmedia’s flagship network delivered the worst audience figure of 2017, with a 12.1% share.
However, the difference between both leading FTA networks remains tight. According to the monthly report published by Barlovento Comunicación, Antena 3 had the most watched broadcast of the month with the Champions League’s final between Real Madrid and Juventus. While the game was being played in Cardiff last 3 June, Antena 3 reached an average 9.62 million viewers and a 56.9% share.
Regarding media groups, Mediaset, which manages seven FTA, linear networks, has held the market’s throne for 38 consecutive months. The company reached an average 30.4% share (up 0.6%) ahead of Atresmedia (26.1%) and the public broadcaster RTVE (23.1%).
