Atresmedia’s latest production, La Casa de Papel, will be internationally distributed by subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) leader Netflix.
Immediately after finishing its first and only season on Spain’s Antena 3, La Casa de Papel has been added to Netflix’s catalogue in Spain. Later this year, the series will join the SVOD platform worldwide.
Through this deal, the thriller, co-produced by Vancouver Media, has become the latest international success for Atresmedia, which has recently become Spain’s most successful format exporter thanks to series like Velvet, Gran Hotel and El Tiempo Entre Costuras, which have conquered the global audience.
The agreement also strengthens Atresmedia’s good relationship with Netflix, which has resulted in a number of commercial partnerships with Atresmedia’s series division.
Fiction and dramas like Pulsaciones, Mar de Plástico, Gran Hotel, Velvet, Vis a vis and Los Hombres de Paco have recently been acquired by the SVOD player. In addition, Velvet provided the inspiration for Netflix to create its first Spanish production, Las Chicas del Cable, of which it has aired one season and secured two more.
Netflix has also co-produced (along with Diagonal TV and TV3) La Catedral del Mar, one of Atresmedia’s strongest fictional bets for next season.
