Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has revamped Botón Rojo, its video-on-demand (VOD) hybrid TV platform.

Among the new features is an intuitive content discovery tool to help users find content based on their viewing behaviour.

Most changes have been carried out on Botón Rojo’s visual layer. The revamped interface now features information about programmes, with a short synopsis of each episode and a list of popular and relevant, similar content, copying the format of other popular VOD services such as Netflix and HBO España.

And for the first time the platform will display subtitles as well as indicating a clear age rating before the content is played.

The Botón Rojo player will have auto-play videos, showing one episode after the other until the user wants to stop watching.

“Improvements will continue, and soon registered users will be able to create favourite and personalised content lists. In addition, Botón Rojo will soon allow users to resume watching from any point within the content timeline,” said RTVE.

The VOD platform recently added its first 4K titles following an agreement made during Hispasat’s Ultra HD short film festival.
