Japan’s public broadcaster NHK is preparing for the launch on 22 July of a new animated superhero series called The Reflection.

The 12-episode series follows the fight between superhero Xon and villain I-Guy who each gained special powers after a global disaster called The Reflection.

Marvel Comics’ writer and publisher Stan Lee is executive producer of the TV series, which is a collaboration between his Pow! Entertainment and Studio DEEN. Hiroshi Nagahama, well known for his animated TV series Mushishi and The Flowers of Evil, has directed the project, while the music was produced by Trevor Horn.

“After The Reflection, some of the people in all parts of the world are discovered with super powers. Some become heroes, and others villains. How did the Reflection happen? What was the cause of it? With many unsolved mysteries, the world is lead into turmoil,” says the Studio DEEN website.

In the series Satoshi Mikami plays Ian Izzet/I-Guy, a famous rock singer whose voice can be focused to create concussive blasts; Mariya Ise is Eleanor Evans, who has the ability to teleport for short distances; and Satomi Hanamura plays athlete Lisa Livingston who competes in wheelchair sprint races.

The Reflection will be broadcast on NHK on Saturdays from 11pm (JST) beginning on 22 July 2017. It will also be streamed on the US-based online animation platform Crunchyroll.
