Telefónica has made Movistar+ pay-TV and video-on-demand (VOD) services the cornerstone of its convergent telecom offering, and will now use it as springboard for its in-house content portfolio.
“We’ve moved from being a telco to becoming the reference entertainment video platform for our clients,” said Luis Miguel Gilpérez, president, Telefónica España. “Following this strategy, we’re now betting on increasing the value of our own content and channels, and improving the general TV experience.”
Telefónica’s revamped video strategy in Spain will start to roll out from 9 July. The telco will launch two new convergent packages - Movistar Fusión #0 and Movistar Fusión Series – to provide two more affordable TV options for broadband subscribers which will mainly deliver Movistar’s in-house series and its own channel, #0.
In addition the company’s entire catalogue, including the coming premieres of Telefónica’s production unit, will be available on demand for Movistar Series subscribers.
This way, Movistar+’s convergent packages and the VOD platform will become an exclusive premiere channel for Velvet Colección, La Zona and Vergüenza, (the company’s big bets for 2017) as well as La Peste, set to air on January 2018.
