With more than one million subs reached since launching a year ago, Starz is focusing on growing its content offering, reinforcing its strategic value propositions.
To this end the Starz app and over-the-top (OTT) platform has recently added titles to its children’s library, including formats such as Bob the Builder and Thomas and Friends, as well as nearly 300 Spanish-language movies and telenovela episodes, such as Colombia’s El Cartel de los Sapos and La Promesa.
Starz plans to increase its portfolio by 40% to reach 7,700 by the end of the year, including over 60 distinct children series titles such as The Wubbulous World of Dr Seuss, The Cat in the Hat (TV specials), Naruto, and Garfield and Friends.
Spanish-language content on the app is expected to reach more than 700 titles by year end with the addition of movies like Almodóvar’s I’m So Excited, Oscar-nominated movies Chico and Rita and No, starring Gael Garcia Bernal, as well as telenovelas and children’s series.
“Starz continues to invest in programming for Starz subscribers to reinforce the best value proposition in the marketplace today,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, COO, Starz. “With both streaming and download viewing options, the Starz app offers flexibility and is a tremendous value for all ages and audiences that enjoy premium, commercial-free viewing.”
