As it ended its eight-episode run, Sky original drama Jamestown, detailing life in 17th century America, racked up an average audience of 1.3 million viewers across its episodes, making it one of the highest performing dramas on the channel to date.
“We’re so pleased with the positive reaction that we’ve received from our customers about Jamestown and that such large numbers have watched the series both live and on-demand,” said Sky 1 and Sky Living director Adam MacDonald. “We’re now shooting series two and can’t wait to see what happens next to our favourite characters in the New World.”
Running at a Friday 9pm time slot, the series from production company Carnival Films, the drama was said to have outperformed offerings from both BBC Two and Channel 5 within pay homes. More than 3.2 million total downloads made of the series through Sky’s on-demand platforms, including the Sky Go app and online streaming service NOW TV. This number will continue to grow over the coming months.
Added Carnival Films executive producer Gareth Neame: “Everyone involved in the making of Jamestown is thrilled that it has performed so well on Sky 1 and clearly resonated with audiences. Bill Gallagher has brilliantly re-created the brooding atmosphere of Jamestown, a viper’s nest of intrigue and politics inhabited by an intriguing cast of characters. As a British take on the beginning of the new world, this is truly original drama and we are already hard at work on new episodes.”
Jamestown will return to Sky 1 and NOW TV in 2018 with a brand new eight-part second series. Written by Bill Gallagher, the second series will see the ensemble cast led by Naomi Battrick as Jocelyn, Sophie Rundle as Alice, Niamh Walsh as Verity, Max Beesley as Henry and Jason Flemying as Yeardley return.
