UK drama ‘commissioning club’ Atrium TV has added international TV veteran executive Nick Witkowski to its nascent team as director of global content sales.
Formed in April 2017 by Sir Howard Stringer, the ex-chairman of Sony and former president of CBS’ Jeremy Fox, CEO of British distributor DRG; and Jakob Mejlhede, EVP and head of programming and content development at MTG, Atrium TV was designed to create premium, high profile drama content for delivery by regional OTT players and telcos. At inception, the company said that it was ‘uniquely positioned’ as a commissioning club.
Joining Stringer and his colleagues will be Nick Witkowski who will be responsible for working closely with Atrium TV club members as projects come to fruition. Based in Atrium’s London office, Witkowski comes to Atrium TV with more 30 years’ experience, including senior positions at Central Television, TVS and Chrysalis Television. He was also a co-founder of Alchemy. The new exec will join a growing team that also includes creative head Quinn Taylor, based in in Los Angeles, and UK-based development exec Dave Clarke.
Commenting on the appointment, Jeremy Fox said: “Nick joins Atrium TV at a really exciting time: we will shortly be announcing the first round of members to join founding member Viaplay and we will also be launching a new programme slate at MIPCOM. Nick brings with him huge amounts of valuable experience from the international drama world and a genuine passion for the end-product. He ...has a track record for getting results so we are delighted that he chosen to spend the next part of his exciting career with Atrium.”
For his part, Witkowski added: “Jeremy, Howard and the team are developing something really special with Atrium so I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to use my existing experience and apply it to such a clever new model in the industry. As well as being good businessmen, the founding team is also putting together a really impressive scripted slate of the highest quality and I very much look forward to working with them on it.”
