As part of a plan to show a number of factual programmes marking the 500th anniversary of the historic religious schism in the UK, BBC Four has commissioned German drama Reformation from FremantleMedia International.
The 2x120’ drama, which will air in the autumn, tells the story of Martin Luther, the German revolutionary priest who changed the face of Christendom and the path of European civilisation.
Produced by UFA Fiction for ZDF, Reformation stars Maximilian Brückner as Martin Luther. The series was written by Stefan Dähnert and Marianne Wendt, directed by Uwe Janson and its creative producer is Martin Bromber. Executive producers on the series are Benjamin Benedict and Joachim Kosack. The series is distributed internationally by FremantleMedia International and will be broadcast later this year on ZDF and BBC Four.
“This compelling drama is a stunning portrayal of the brave Martin Luther whose actions 500 years ago at the time of the Reformation have reverberated throughout time and still influence today’s society,” commented Jamie Lynn, EVP, head of sales and distribution, EMEA for FremantleMedia International “Reformation is beautifully shot piece of drama with a strong cast that bring the story of the revolution that changed the world to life.”
