From being one of the most-awaited OTT launches of the year, Mexico-based Sportflix - the so-called Netflix of sports - is finding no support now in the industry, even among former partners.

Mexican agency Vivian Smith PR Consulting has been the last company to cut ties with the OTT platform, barely a week before its launch.

“Vivian Smith has ended its commercial relationship with the Sportflix brand, due to the general failure to fulfil the agreements reached with others of our own customers,” stated the company.

As the agency has admitted, it intends to avoid being related in the future with Sportflix, whose activities have been criticised recently by both broadcasters and sports rights owners, especially in Mexico and Latin America.

As the 30 August release of the platform quickly approaches, questions are still being asked as to whether Sportflix has the rights over the sports competitions it is set to offer.

Over the past two weeks, sports networks and broadcasters like ESPN, Turner and Fox, and even some sports competitions have stated that no TV rights agreement was ever reached with the sports-focused OTT player.
