As Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor were driving huge audience numbers for traditional TV around the world, beIN Sports’ over-the-top (OTT) platform was breaking records in Spain.
According to the Mediapro-managed streaming service, over 60,000 new users registered for the first time to have access to the boxing match, which was delivered as pay-per-view content.
The transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) fight broke subscription records for the sports-focused OTT service, which had never registered so many signings in a single day.
In addition, the fight was among the most-commented topics on Twitter, as the hashtag #beINElCombate became a trending topic after totalling over 2,700 mentions.
The boxing match, available via streaming, also broke piracy records around the world, Irdeto revealed this week.
