The US video service Flixster has closed on August 28, 2017. As a result, the company will no longer accept UltraViolet redemption codes, offer downloads, or stream purchased titles to members.
The company cited circumstances “beyond our control” related to the unexpected shutdown of a “critical vendor.” In a statement, Flixter said “Flixster Video will no longer support code redemption or streaming and downloading of content. Redeem codes and access your Flixster video collection after that date by signing up or logging into Vudu, another UltraViolet retail service (www.vudu.com) or access your collection from other UltraViolet services like FandangoNow.”
Fandango in 2016 bought Warner Bros.-owned Flixster and rating service Rotten Tomatoes in an equity deal that made the studio a minority owner of the ticket service.
However, the Flixter.com website will continue: “Movie fans can count on Flixster for everything movies, including tickets, theaters and showtimes, ratings and professional critic reviews provided by Rotten Tomatoes’ world famous Tomatometer rating.”
