Animal Planet’s Surviving Harvey: Animals After the Storm is to chronicle the heroic efforts of rescuers and volunteers who lend a helping hand to the animals impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

The documentary will profile daring rescues, dramatic reunions and inspiring adoptions that leave hope after Harvey. It airs in the US today, 9 September. Hurricane Harvey, one of the most catastrophic natural disasters in US history, left thousands of people and animals displaced and homeless after floodwaters engulfed entire Texas cities.

“We are pleased to bring the stories from Hurricane Harvey that profile the incredible efforts being made on behalf of the animals in harm’s way,” said Patrice Andrews, general manager of Animal Planet. “We hope our special helps to also promote continued contributions to the organisations working tirelessly to rescue and shelter the animals.”

By presenting moving stories of animals who have been impacted by the hurricane, the hope is that viewers will be inspired to support the efforts of the non-profit organisation, Austin Pets Alive, which has dedicated itself to the cause and already evacuated over hundreds of animals to safety. To help with animal rescue efforts in Houston, US residents can text ANIMALS to 707070 to make a donation.
