With the World Cup qualifying games delivering some of the best viewing figures of the season, Telemundo is betting on its exclusive coverage of Russia 2018 to lead the US Hispanic audience.
“The CONCACACF World Cup qualifiers have consistently delivered strong ratings for Telemundo, and Tuesday night’s results reinforce the strength and passion of the US Hispanic soccer viewers,” said Ray Warren, president of Telemundo Deportes. “We look forward to continue serving our audience with world-class coverage of the teams and stars they love as we get closer to the FIFA World Cup next summer.”
The last qualifier between Mexico and Honduras, played on 10 October, ranked as the top sports event across broadcast and cable television, even outperforming beIN Sports coverage. The game window delivered 2.5 million total viewers and 1.4 million adults aged 18-49, according to Nielsen.
To conquer the US Hispanic audience, Mexico’s football is always a safe bet. During the previous round of qualifiers, hold in September, Telemundo reached 2.7 million viewers with the Costa Rica vs Mexico game.
So far both teams, along with Panama, have secured a place in the Russia 2018 World Cup. Honduras will also have a chance to participate if it wins against Australia.
With the strongest Central American participation ever, Telemundo Deportes, home of the FIFA World Cup through to 2026, will have an excellent chance to win the US Hispanics over.
