Aiming to revamp the classic soap opera format and adapt it to new audiences, Televisa has premiered its first super drama title, Por Amar Sin Ley.

Starring Ana Brenda, David Zepeda and Julián Gil, Por Amar Sin Ley is designed to conquer prime time for Televisa’s Mexican free-to-air (FTA) network Las Estrellas.

Although the focus remains on personal stories and romance, the new series will explore other topics and introduce some changes to the usual soap opera format.

With 84x45’ episodes, the drama series will present a new story each week, which will conclude after a few episodes, instead of going on indefinitely, as more traditional telenovelas usually do.

The show will also see nearly 150 actors and actresses appearing with the core cast during the first season.

Alhough soap operas are still a cornerstone of Televisa’s solid position as content producer for the Spanish-speaking Americas, the media giant intends to look into a more diversified catalogue, adapted to the new Latin audiences in the US and LATAM.

While keeping similar values and topics as telenovelas have, the so-called super dramas will address situations related to the current issues that concern Latinos, such as diversity, integration, politics and crime.
