Just as it was announcing that its cable TV subsidiary Tampereen Tietoverkko will merge into its corporate body, Finland's Elisa has launched award-winning European cinema TV channel Eurochannel on its Viihde digital entertainment service.

Elisa Viihde offers subscription video-on-demand services, rental movies, and an extensive range of pay-TV packages to over 300,000 households in the country. Eurochannel will offer subscribers what is claimed to be a unique selection of more than 70 exclusive premium European movies and TV series. Among the options that Elisa Viihde subscribers will have available is period drama The Secrets of Borgo Larici, considered the Italian Downton Abbey.

Commenting on the new partnership, Eurochannel CEO Gustavo Vainstein said: "In our constant expansion across Europe, we are thrilled to start offering Eurochannel in Finland for the first time thanks to Elisa, the country's leading telecom operator. Now, Elisa Viihde subscribers can enjoy the exclusive and premium movies and TV series of Eurochannel. This new partnership allows us to step for the first time in the Scandinavian market."

Added Elisa's head of sports and pay-TV Mika Lepistö: "As the leading digital entertainment service in Finland, Elisa Viihde already has a strong offering and distribution for local domestic content in Finland. We are now excited to add more European premium content for our customers to fast-growing Elisa Viihde service and Elisa cable TV network."
