América Móvil has reported consistent pay-TV growth across Latin America, however Brazil’s poor performance has dampened overall results.

With mobile representing the largest share of service revenues, América Móvil has reported incomes of over $14 billion during Q4 2017, up 1.4% year-on-year. Pay-TV represents nearly 10% of service revenues, with the highest income growth registered in South America and Mexico.

In terms of subscribers, pay-TV accesses decreased by 2.6% during the quarter, despite most LATAM operations showing growth during the period. The loss of over 800,000 pay-TV households in Brazil during 2017 negated the positive performance in other territories.

Fixed revenue generating units (RGU) were up by 8.3% in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, mostly thanks to the 15.1% pay-TV growth in the latter. The telco has stated that the pay-TV licence recently granted in Argentina will foster the performance of the fixed business in the country.

Fixed RGUs were also on the up in Chile, where the pay-TV business is clearly growing, but América Móvil had been showing difficulties in capitalising on such growth.

In Colombia, where Claro dominates the market, pay-TV revenues increased by 13.4% during Q4 2017, while fixed also grew in Ecuador and Peru.

Across Central America, the Mexican telco has reported 5.8 million fixed accesses, between broadband and pay-TV, which resulted into 7.8% revenue increase in the TV business.
