RTL takes Globo’s Merciless to Europe

Leading production company Globo has licensed the series Merciless to pay-TV channel RTL Crime for viewers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
Written by Glória Perez (Edge of Desire and India - A Love story), Merciless plays around psychopath Edu (Bruno Gagliasso). A good-looking, smart and articulate man behind a strain of murders that has baffled police, Edu uses his charm to hide his real and terrifying personality. The series reached a share of 37% and more than 22 million viewers per day in Brazil. The drama series will premiere on RTL’s channel which offers content tailor-made for male audiences in July 2018.
“Merciless is a perfectly crafted, emotional, edgy and last but not least, a very scary serial killer series that easily surpasses the international market standard,” commented RTL Group head of digital division programmes Klaus Holtmann. “We are confident that our subscribers on RTL Crime will very much appreciate our first Brazilian series ever.”
As part of Globo Studios’ new generation of series Merciless’ will be shown to the market during a special showcase held on 20 February during the Berlinale 2018. The event will also feature other productions such as Under Pressure, Jailers, Above Justice, and Thirteen Days Away From the Sun, which is still unreleased in the international market, among others. Another one of Globo’s series, Vade Retro, will also be featured on 20 February. A mix between comedy and suspense, the production was handpicked to be featured in the Drama Series Days.
