International distributor of TV and new media rights licences Beta Film has joined forces with the commercial subsidiary of ZDF, ZDF Enterprises, to launch a new venture which will develop, finance and produce scripted drama for the global market.
Based in Berlin, Intaglio Films will have the mission of developing, financing and producing what it regards as world-class English language scripted projects out of Germany, aimed at both the national and global market. Beta Film and ZDF Enterprises are supporting the company with their expertise in the field of international co-production and distribution.
The new concern will be led by Emmy Award-winning Producer Frank Doelger (executive producer on HBO's Game of Thrones, John Adams, and Rome) who will spearhead the company's development and production slate, acting as bureau chief and will hope to take advantage of his expertise and long-running creative relationships with broadcasters. Beta Film MD Moritz von Kruedener and Robert Franke, VP ZDFE.drama, will manage the venture's business affairs.
Commenting on the new venture and in particular its prospects, Doelger said: "Of all the opportunities presented to me upon completion of Game of Thrones, the new joint venture proposed by Beta Film and ZDF Enterprises was by far the most interesting and creatively challenging. Backed by the formidable resources of Beta and ZDF Enterprises, and their shared vision for Intaglio, I am looking forward to continuing to work with the established creative community, as well as emerging talent, on both sides of the Atlantic."
